10 unconventional things to do in Goa for old timers

Okay, so Goa is one of the most sort after holiday destinations in India. We all know that!

While visiting it once can be satisfying, one can never have enough of the beaches and one keeps packing up for that fun trip to the beach destination- Goa!!!

For those who have set their foot in Goa many times and already exhausted the conventional, here are some refreshing tips on how to make your next trip to Goa internalizing and truly rewarding.

1. Finish that long started book

Some Goan beaches in the South are for the quite indulgences and makes a superb setting for finishing up that novel you started months ago but never got on to finish it. Goa is ideal to just give your mind a back seat and enjoy your favourite book to bits.

2. Early morning jog

Late night partying (which is obviously awesome in Goa) keeps most of us tied to bed till early noon. But give that night club a skip for once and rise early to hop into those running shoes for a refreshing jog on the Goan beach. The warm feel of the early morning sun and the scintillating breeze of the ocean is a luxury one ought not miss!

3. Watch the locals fishing

Goa's primary occupation since time immemorial has been fishing though tourism now churns most of the economy. The indigenous Goan fishermen still set out at early dawn with their fishing nets and bring to shore hordes of exotic sea creatures like crabs, squids, locusts. You will be surprised to see the variety and exclusiveness of the sea creatures these hard working locals bring home and its absolutely humbling to watch how they catch the fishes which you otherwise only find on your plates. And if you are nice, you might even get lucky to take home some freshly caught Goan fishes from the locals!

4. Experience the back waters
Many of the visitors keep to the main beach areas whilst in Goa quite forgetting the unexplored backwaters that the sea pushes inland. The backwaters with the stillness and deafening silence is just therapeutic to the senses and perfect to simply feel lost in nature. A humble boat ride into the calm back waters presents a perfect opportunity to spot some rare birds, marsh land creatures and listen to some astonishing sounds of nature.

5. Don't miss the sunset!

One of the best views in Goa apart from its gorgeous waves is its beautiful sunset. Some of the stunning beaches in Goa also offer the best sun set views and you will be completely fascinated by the setting sun that changes its colour from orange to deep red and graciously melts into the tranquil sea.

6. Go hiking!

Hiking in Goa is obviously not on your list. But picture this! A grand hill of greenary, unseen flora and fauna and a lovely walk uphill to witness the most breathtaking view of Goa from 680 metres altitude. Now that's something you will never be able to forget!

7. Try meaningful photography

Enough of selfies and picture perfect camera shots. While at Goa, try your hand at capturing some rare sea shells, the colourful clothes stalls, Goan rustic homes or anything creative that your lens can spot!

8. Visit a cool Portuguese restaurant

Yes, Goa was the Portuguese colony before India's independence and has many authentic Portuguese restaurants and eateries. Lip smacking rissois and xacuti de bife of authentic Portuguese style will bring your taste buds a new experience to relish.

9. Dress like a hippie

One of the worldwide repute Goa has earned is that of being the Hippie's hub-tub back in the 60s. Buy a tie dye t-shirt, put on your cotton shorts and slip on your flip flops to relive the Hippie revolution that once took over this city. Feel the Hippie vibe with your flower crown and a nice pair of Lenon glasses.

10. Jam on a Bonfire night

Beaches and music go well! Transform your evening into a bonfire night and join people from various countries to enjoy a musical night over a lovely bonfire on the beach! Strum on your guitar, liven up your djembe or maybe just a groove in with the crowd or sing along!

You can do so much to experience the real Goa even after your previous visits and take home some quirky stories to share about your stay in Goa. So go ahead, get creative and steal some unconventional memories!
